Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update is now live, but unfortunately, only a few phones are actually getting it, as Microsoft is leaving nearly 40 percent of its devices behind due to compatibility issues.
Oddly enough, many of the phones that are getting the Creators Update were able to run preview builds just fine, including here the Lumia 930 and 1520, and it looks like Microsoft itself knows this very well.
So today, Microsoft rolled out the Creators Update RTM to the Release Preview ring for mobile, giving users who aren’t eligible for upgrading to the final build the chance to get the stable release as well.
The software giant explained in an announcement published in the Feedback Hub that this workaround comes with a risk, because the operating system is not supported and any bugs or issues won’t be fixed.
“If you are a Windows Insider on an unsupported device, you can stay on the Windows 10 Creators Update and receive Cumulative Updates via the Release Preview ring.
However, you do so at your own risk as it’s unsupported. If you are on one of these unsupported devices and in the Fast or Slow ring, you will need to switch to the Release Preview ring,” the company explains.

As for the reasons why some phones aren’t
getting the Creators Update, Microsoft says it’s all because of the feedback it received from insiders, as it helped them determine that a number of devices aren’t really running the new OS version quite smoothly.
“We looked at feedback from our Windows Insiders and realized that
we would not be able to provide the best possible experience for our customers on many of these older devices. That helped us determine which devices we support for the Windows 10 Creators Update,” Microsoft says.
